About Me

Speaker, facilitator, consultant, trainer and coach with extensive international leadership experience in academia, industry and healthcare, underpinned by a grounding in evidence-based positive psychology

A diverse career putting people first

Who am I: I sometimes joke that I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. But I do know what I care about.

I’ve always prioritised people-centred perspectives – from women-centred midwifery, to user-centred consulting in industry, to human-centred computing in research, to human-centred academia.

What drives me is a belief that great academic workplaces don’t happen by accident. They’re built. Even small actions can make a big impact.

We can transform workplace cultures by enabling people to bring their best selves to work, supported by empathic leaders and collegial workplace cultures and practices.

I also love being outdoors running, cycling, scuba diving, and travelling. And I love learning and challenging myself.

The short bio: I have a PhD in Computer Science & Electrical Engineering, an MSc in Applied Positive/Coaching Psychology, and an earlier career in nursing and midwifery.

I’ve also had over 40 years experience in various leadership roles in different countries and sectors: clinical, academia, research, and industry (see below).

My last salaried position was as Professor of Technology Design and Assessment, and Head of the wonderful Human Computer Interaction Group in the Department of Computer Science at TU Wien. This short CV gives an overview of my academic work.

I now enjoy being able to make a difference as a keynote speaker, leadership development consultant, trainer, facilitator, coach and policy advisor; and  Changing Academic Life podcast host since 2016.
